What I envision is a high-energy linear particle accelerator with a test model balance so that ionized atomic particles go flying down the tube toward the test model at relativistic speeds. This would give a chance to test various types of shields or particle deflectors for spacecrafts moving at relativistic
speeds. [link]

What's a "test model balance"? |
|
| |
Didn't we do something similar? But
involving firing collider-generated
particles into a hypersonic wine tunnel? |
|
| |
Yes, that last one involved hypersonic wind and particle acceleraters, which is hypersonically unecessary though, so I've revised the idea without the hypersonic wind tunnel part. |

A test model balance is a name for the mechanism that holds the test model in place. Normally it can be used for measuring lift and drag on an airfoil. |

I anticipate rocking in the new year in a hypersonic wine tunnel. |
|
| |
On another note, could one not use a regular particle accelerator for these tests? |

I was too late getting tickets to the Hypersonic Wine Tunnel bash. |
