Taliban Statues

Exploding Statuary produced by the Taliban for sale to Western cities.

Since we have witnessed the wanton destruction of some 1,500 year old statues by the zealots of an Islamic theocracy this week I have been trying to think of some positive slant to put on this event.
Here goes:
Afghanistan has one of the world's lowest GDPs, and as such it is very attractive to some Afghans to produce and sell opiate-based drugs to the world to bring in hard currency.
To replace this income perhaps they could produce a line of exploding statues for sale to Western countries where these graven images won't be so offensive to the natives.
Why would anyone want an exploding statue? To get rid of pigeons! The dirty louse-infested flying rats settle on a statue and if there is sufficient downwards pressure, like say the mass of 50 pigeons then BOOM!!, the whole thing detonates and vapourises the disgusting pests, redecorating the immediate vicinity at the same time.
This is a win-win-win situation, happy Afghans, happy Westerners, performance art & dead pigeons.

Yes, one of them dropped its guts on me as it flew over today.

       Don't call me, surely.

Just reliving the horrible incident (((((shimmering flashback))))) I had this vision of the pigeon gutter press gathered in the press debriefing room of Operation Doodoo Storm. They are sitting in front of a pigeon-chested bird colonel with a chest full of campaign ribbons and gold braid. They are all watching grainy video footage of me walking blithely down the street.....

I'm surprised no-one around me noticed the red laser dot 'painted' on my back.

From the snippets you've revealed about yourself previously, I doubt if it needed laser guidance in order to hit you.

I wouldn't mind the Taliban destroying ancient statues so much if they'd just stop slaughtering innocent people.

They'd run out of anti-tank rockets sharpish.

Wow, UB, if you'd posted this idea today or yesterday you'd have been reamed...

Still waiting to see what sort of knick-knacks the terrorists had in their hand luggage.

Afro, there's a lot of things been said in this forum which probably wouldn't pass muster in the wake of recent events. I don't think we'll ever see the world in the same terms ever again.

No more same ol' same ol' - hopefully kids today will be able to admonish their own quarry as to what connotes respect. From what I've seen thus far - it's had an impact on how kids out and about behave amongst themselves and elders - a week ago - dis'sing - now - in line.
As for GDP of Afghanistan - soon it will be even less. Kurds who made it out - and those who resisted leaving their homeland didn't know how lucky they were. In a few days time there will be 'no moon'. Strategically, that is preferable for ordinance equipped bombers to carry out missions. Time will tell - as there has not been time for Armed Forces of US or allies to mobilize light or heavy infantry or equipment. Regardless, the only exploding statues there are likely to be in Afghanistan any time soon will be due to incoming missiles. I just hope CNN and every other News Bureau on the face of the planet isn't there before the positions are secured shoving microphones and juggling for camera position every which way.

You know that's going to happen, TW. We are becoming accustomed to the sight of previously unthinkable images.

For my part, thumbwax, I'd be quite pleased for all the CNN and Fox scribblers and talking heads to flock into the most interesting parts of Afghanistan just before... The US IQ and level of mental heath would skyrocket.

UB, Thumbwax, your annos strike truth in this situation. I remember September eleventh differently than anyone else because I watched the towers fall and was covered in the dust. Soiled by the tragedy like everyone else that day. Sad, really to think everyone looked the same, everyone took care of eachother, now back in America prejudice reigns free again. It just goes to prove that Westerners will never stop being arrogant toward eachother. They will never learn... I must go now I'm late for work.

I remember I was extremely annoyed when I saw this on the news. I guess it was pretty bad karma to do such a thing. Where is the Stinkin' Taliban now?

Regrouping, in Pakistan, under the care of the ISS. There are over 800 madrasahs in Karachi alone.
