Laser Tag, or Laser Skirmish is a nicer version of paintball, where a hit sets off an alarm and flashing lights on your jacket. Unfortunately, some people cheat and play on after being hit and the jacket resets.
BubbaCo's new Taser Tag resolves that problem. We've added a secret ingredient.
When
you get shot in our game you are hit with a built-in low intensity taser, embedded in the chestplate of the jacket. It effectively immobilises you for thirty seconds or so, while you thrash about screaming, as though you've really been shot.
If you illegally rejoin the game then it gives you a full minute. Thereafter, you get the idea...

[UnaBubba], there is a guy here from the CIA here asking for your CV; can you fax me a copy? |
|
| |
Tell him I said, "Fax you." |

I proposed a similar idea, linked. I could see however why folks from some countries (especially those that play football without pads) might find my scheme a little wussy. |
|
| |
This is quite widely Baked in science fiction, in both film and
literature. [-] |
|
| |
Are you certain about that [21Q]? A taser, embedded in your laser tag body armour, that zaps you when you are hit? Please direct me to a reference to it. I want to put my own hand in the hole in the ideas side; run my fingers through the holes in its hands. |

I love this idea. Whenever I played paintball I was always getting shot in the face. At least with this I know where it is going to hurt. + |

It certainly exists in the "First Person Shooter" episode of The X-Files. |
|
| |
Wasn't that episode about a "ghost in the machine" VR game? I can't remember. |
|
| |
That's what I was referring to. I've also seen it in an episode of
Stargate SG-1, and read about combat training suits that electrify
the wearer upon being hit with a targetting laser in several
science fiction novels. |
|
| |
The linked episode was about a VR game played in an indoor
arena in which you get shot with a laser rifle and the suit
electrifies you if you try to move before the game ends. If I
remember right. It might or might not have been officially
licensed Taser-brand equipment being used. |

I'm curious where you're playing that the jacket can reset
when it's not supposed to. Everywhere I've played, the rules
for that particular game are programmed into the unit, and
once you're out, that's it. |
|
| |
Quite so... the lights on the suit stay on until the game is over. At
the local LaserQuest here in Spokane, the gun is wired to the
user's suit. If you get hit, your gun is disabled as well. Cheating
is really not much of an option. |
|
| |
What if someone like me is playing, who usually finds themself being shot every two minutes or so? |
|
| |
//Cheating is really not much of an option.//
Yep. *raises hand* Same here. |
|
| |
Here, at LaserForce, you're supposed to retire from the game after being shot but some people have been known to rejoin. It's a simple matter of shooting yourself and the rig resets. Obviously different with different equipment. My bad. |
|
| |
Sneaky shit, learned from watching the staff reset the vests. |
|
| |
// It's a simple matter of shooting yourself and the rig resets. // I'm never going to lose at laser tag again! But as for Taser Tag, [+] sign me up! And I don't care if anyone cheats- That just makes the game more fun. I mean how many times do you REALLY want to be tasered before you tap out? I'd be more than happy to taser you again if you feel that you had not had enough. |
|
| |
the standard "five second ride" that I recieved was enough to make me never ever want to get tazed again. |
|
| |
Prior to being tazed, the instructor described the experience, (quite succinctly), as being beaten by fifty robust men with ball-peen hammers. |
|
| |
It was the longest five seconds of my life. |
|
| |
Are you sure 30 seconds is necessary? |
|

This is pretty close to the laser tag equipment worn in a section of this webcomic called "Octopus Pie". Basically, whenever hit by a laser, you get tossed in that direction by your own armor, making the whole game wonderfully unsafe. |
|
| |
That's the thing I don't like about laser tag, you never 'feel' where you got hit from. |
|
| |
I would try taser tag...once anyway. |

[2 Fries] Point, the last time I played the gun had a display that indicated direction, but it wasn't intuitive. Maybe a version that produces a mild (thinking like 9V on the tounge level) shock at the triggered target? |
|

There is quite a lot of shocking going on in the games industry. The nearest one is [linke]ed, but there are others, findable by googling: laser tag shock |
