The Dorian Gray computer monitor would have a running picture of how you'll look in the future if you maintain the stress level a sensor built into your mouse is registering. A camera on the monitor would combine your current appearance with the stress level to produce a dynamic picture of the future you. If you don't like what you see, you can relax and a less wrinkled version of you will appear. Kind of a visual biofeedback machine. See link for an example of the kind of program that will make this possible.

       This would stress me out.

World - Maybe you could run the program in reverse. Instead of setting it to show how you'll look in 10 years, you could set it to work backwards from today. The less stress it senses, the younger you get.

longshot9999, Feb 24 2005

Nah, thinking about stress is stressful.

Worldgineer, Feb 24 2005

I think you got the Dorian Grey concept wrong. The image shown would reflect any low life sites you had visited on the web.

Getting the blue screen of death might be stressful.

       Nice. +

Would it show you yourself ageing beautifully if it sensed that you were calm and happy?

<longshot> you're on fire. May I present you with the second ether bun of the day [+]

excellant idea, mr dentworth could benefit from this, since he ignores my warnings. read: nagging

       hmmm.....
Except when you're really mad, you're screaming or throwing stuff or punching the monitor.
(Keep your hand on the mouse, you rage-a-holic.)

Lovely!! We stress out too easily. I like to be reminded every now and then that life is too beaufitul and short to be wasted on anger or worries. [+]

Generally this sounds kind of sad and creepy, but I guess if you spend computer time looking at an ag(e)ing picture of yourself, when you look in an actual mirror you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Hey, I thought this was like... Hey, I've now got a great idea (well, bad idea, it'll get lotsa fishbones, I'm sure, but oh well...). Thanks [longshot]!!!

I believe Dorian was unable to actually look at his portrait, keeping it in an attic instead.

UnaBubba, Feb 26 2005

       is that right?

po, Feb 26 2005

Well he takes a look at it in the attic before stabbing the portrait and dying himself.

FarmerJohn, Feb 26 2005

Yep. The deal was one of selling his own soul. A morality tale, after Wilde discovered the joys of his newfound bisexuality, in about 1890.

UnaBubba, Feb 26 2005

Maybe the image could actually be that of your boss, for example.
