The Icehouse

A house that looks like a gigantic block of ice

I admire footage of icebergs, in their gorgeous blue-green hues. In fact, I'd like to live in one.

A monstrous block of translucent, opaque, freeform material with transparent sections for windows, see-through floors and a continuous flow water cooling system running over the outside, to keep it from overheating.

Rooms inside, with all of the usual functions and opaque walls.

Like the famous ice hotels that are carved each winter in some far northern areas, but permanent and in more tropical climes.

       I hadn't decided on a building material, other than stipulating it has to *look* like an iceberg.

       // building material //

       Cast-in-place acrylic or polyester ?

       The polymerization rate would need to be very slow to allow heat dissipation.

       Perhaps precast and bonded together onsite.

       Plenty of hidden ventilation points, or heat buildup is going to be a problem.
