The Municipal ICO

At whatever level of government the market will bear

With Puerto Rico's impending bankruptcy, not to mention any number of towns in Cali, New Jersey, etc, etc, municipal bonds are so yesterday.

And with tax payment lines literally out the door in some of our neighborhoods as folks try to prepay exorbitant SALT (State and Local) taxes to avoid penalties under the new US Tax Law, payment frictions have been exposed for all to see.

In the olden days (why does olden sound like golden) of yore, each city state minted its own currency. Whatever rationale is being used for Brexit, for the virtues of local and state government experimentation with various models, can surely be also applied to running local economies via specialized tokens which can adequately respond to their specialized citizens needs.

Plus, since cryptocurrency speculation has become the favorite pastime of the Millennial generation, here's a way to solve everything from simple budget shortfalls to massive pension deficits, all in one fell swoop.

Not if you're paying with a cow, two wagon-loads of wheat, a barrow of turnips and eight chickens.

//Whatever rationale is being used for Brexit//

Ah. I understand the current conversation in the British cabinet room is along the lines of "Who's brought the rationale?" "Wait, didn't you?" "No, I thought you had one." "No, it wasn't me; it was *her* job to [...]" "I was off sick that day" "I thought *everyone* knew [...]" "Didn't we all agree to [...]" "Well *I* didn't. *I* always said that [...]"

       etc.

Didn't do much for you, though, did it ?

Nah, the credit for that would go to Brooklyn, Haifa, and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, New Jersey had no part in that. Kids and grandkids are a different story though.

Wait a second. You actually have to go there and hand over either cash or a signed paper cheque? Are you aware that it has been possible, for really quite a while now, to send money telegraphically and by other more complicated electronic methods?
MaxwellBuchanan, Dec 27 2017

most people actually pay their taxes through their lender (mortgage holder). But if you own your house outright, or if you've chosen to ask the lender to decouple the tax payment, you can pay directly. No, the towns don't tend to have any online options that I'm aware of.
