The thermometer that cares how *you* feel

I don't trust those "wind chill factors". Say it's 45 degrees Fahrenheit, but it "feels like 30". Who does it feel like 30 to? Maybe I'm more intolerant of wind and cold than the average person, and to me it would be like 10?

Same with the "heat index" -- humidity might not bother me as much as it does other people, so the feels-like temperature, while different from the true degree number, would be also different from the adjusted number reported on the news.

I'm sure you can see where this is going. The Thermo Friend thermometer measures the true temperature, wind speed, and humidity every day. It asks you how hot *you* feel, you enter your estimate, and Thermo Friend keeps track of your data compared to the actual temperature until it has enough data points to plot your Personalized Temperature Index.

From then on, Thermo Friend will display both the true temperature AND your personalized temperature, anytime you want.

It's Damn Hot in Malta at the moment but fels cooler!.

Seriously though, I like this idea. It would need to perform its calibration over a years period in order to capture all Heating, Cooling, Humidification, Dehumidification periods in order that it can truly remember what it feels like for you.
We ought to develop this kind of self learning AlGoreithm in the BMS industry and deploy it across the 1000 people in the building
Then of course we could frig it to tell them that they are 'Just Right'.

Got here with the Random button.

I think this is a pretty good idea -- even now, I'm not sure what it's going to feel like outside when I look at the weather report. With this, it'd tell me what I'm going to think of it!

I could say, "Shoot, I should have grabbed a coat," and then next time the Thermo Friend will tell me I ought to grab a coat. [+]

A breezy 21°C may feel like 17°C to you, but that leaves the question of how 17°C feels to you.
