I was watching patients in a nursing home the other day and heard an alarm go off when an old woman with Alzheimers walked outdoors. This made me wonder why we haven't come up with something similar for toddlers. All we'd need is an alarm we could clip onto the inside handle of every door that leads
outside the house and a soft cuff we could attach around the child's ankle (with a childproof safety latch of course). That way if the child wandered outside, and we'd stupidly fallen asleep, the alarm would wake us up and we'd be able to go get them before they fell into a pool and drowned or stepped into the street and got run over. A system like that would definitely have saved a few lives around here.

and the windows. I found a child crawling out of a groundfloor window once; not to mention the one that climbed over the railings on the first floor, fell and flattened the disabled woman who lived on the ground floor. |

po you could put this on your cat so you know when the little bugger is trying to slope off. |

Just get leashes -- they're cheaper. |

you ever been tied to a toddler? pain in the arse. its like you a prison escort for a drunk midget. not fun. |

You're both misguided. Ball and chain is the way forward. Preferably heavy enough so that the troublesome tot can't get anywhere without a deal of noise and effort. Excellent to develop leg power and balance too. Alternate legs and before long, you'll have a track and field star on your hands. |

[etherman] The toddler doesn't have to be tied to you, I was thinking of a chair or table, or you could add some hooks into your wall for easy placement in any room.
And if you want a track and field star, use bungee cords instead of a normal leash, the toddler still won't be able to go anywhere but they'll get a great work out trying. |

And around here too, for sure. About two months ago, my cousin's neighbour ran over a 3 year old who had wandered out of the house as his nanny fell asleep. He wasn't speeding, he was driving slowly within the limits of a private residencial area. |
