Thanks to the patented new virtucom glare elimination technology, (Polarized sheets of plexiglass) we are finally able to produce signs printed on clear, glare-free sign materials. Signs can be dyed to have backgrounds that are still colored, as well as transparent, in order to contain all necessary
information for the viewing public.
Transparent signs perform two vital functions simultaneously:
1: They allow drivers to see through the signs while approaching them, so that signs can be made larger without creating blind corners.
2: They allow the printing on the signs to be visible, backwards, on the reverse side of the sign, so that people can read the signs they just passed in their rear view mirrors.
Drivers should thereby be able to read signs more easily on the way to them, since they can be made larger, and they should also be able to read signs they have already passed, thus giving them vital clues as to situations where they have gone too far.
While transparent signage may not be useful or appropriate in certain situations, it could be of great use to drivers when used where appropriate. Passengers might be able to see the sights somewhat better as well.
Have you tried a Google search?

Not a bad idea in general, especially the part about reading a passed sign in rear-view mirror. The transparency would decrease as the signs got dirty... (as in: presence of dirt) |

I don't like it. To ensure adequate visbility from all angles, there has to be a high contrast between the text and the background. This is why they're usually black text with white background. Signs are meant to be seen, not seen through. |

I thought you might not like it. However, there tends to be a rather high contrast between transparent and opaque objects. In this plan, the words on the sign are intended to be opaque, even though the background of the signs are to be transparent. Also, as stated, the signage will not be suitable for all areas... such as areas with varying high contrast sections. |
