Two Men With The Same Name

"Today's episode: the other Al Capone."

Short web or television commercial series that documents good people who share the name of infamous bad people. Starts with a short recounting of the bad guy, then launches into...

"... but there's another Alphonse Capone. He was born twenty years before the more famous Al in Rome Italy, moved to the United States and after learning English as a dishwasher in the Bronx, studied engineering at the local library in his spare time. He saved enough money to build a prototype of the first dish washing machine and after a few years, became very wealthy selling them. He raised his family and gave much of his money to charity helping poor people who had been through what he had, being homeless and broke but with a good work ethic and drive to succeed. At the time of his death, his philanthropic organization had raised approximately 3 million people out of poverty without any assistance from government programs or welfare.

(then the tagline)

Good people don't always get a page in history, but there are those who deserve it more then their namesakes.

This is... the OTHER... Al Capone.

Brought to you by (insert product name here)."

People with the Same Names as Celebrities https://www.youtube...watch?v=uEI_e1XA83Q
Adam Levine, Anne Hathaway, Janet Jackson, and Ralph Nader share what life has been like with the same name as a celebrity. [xaviergisz, Feb 07 2019]

Because there are no famous or notable women.
pocmloc, Feb 07 2019

Yes there are, but the individuals who do nasty, evil, criminal things (and become famous - or notorious) are mostly male.

The problem with this is that most people's lives are dull. This is why most people's lives are not made into TV programmes. Assuming that 1 person in 100 is potentially interesting, this means that for 99% of your programme episodes, I'm going to give up 30 minutes of my time solely because someone has the same name as someone else.

You might get lucky with more common names such as George Bush - there's a fair chance there is an interesting GB out there somewhere. Actually, come to think of it, there was.
MaxwellBuchanan, Feb 07 2019

There is a really interesting MaxwellBuchanan who invented a machine capable of turning discarded peanut shells into motorised versions of famous Egyption Icons.... and Oh look there's a second one right here on this site, who grows celery stalks that sprout hairy toenails.

You may be right [8th] but the idea title restricts it also to male personnages for the non-evil half of the equation. Why not introduce Alice Capone, who was a pretty enough (some would say plain) girl, whose interests included reading stories about pony-riding adventures and private school holidays, and who died of consumption on her 7 1/2 th birthday?
pocmloc, Feb 07 2019

//Because there are no famous or notable women.//

       The original title was:

"Two Agender or Androgyne or Androgynous or Bigender or Cis Cisgender Cis Female Cis Male Cis Man Cis Woman Cisgender Female Cisgender Male Cisgender Man Cisgender Woman Female to Male FTM Gender Fluid Gender Nonconforming Gender Questioning Gender Variant Genderqueer Intersex Male to Female MTF Neither Neutrois Non-binary Other Pangender Trans Trans* Trans Female Trans* Female Trans Male Trans* Male Trans Man Trans* Man Trans Person Trans* Person Trans Woman Trans* Woman Transfeminine Transgender Transgender Female Transgender Male Transgender Man Transgender Person Transgender Woman Transmasculine Transsexual Transsexual Female Transsexual Male Transsexual Man Transsexual Person Transsexual Woman or Two-Spirit Humans With The Same Name"

But I trimmed it down a bit. Thanks for the lesson in political correctness though. Gosh, I really do appreciate those.

//I'm going to give up 30 minutes of my time solely because someone has the same name as someone else.//

As I said, these are 60 second commercial spots.

The idea is to give a bit of a nod to the common... PERSON... whose cumulative actions with other less than famous people truly makes a civilization great.

Alexander the Great didn't make anything great, he killed people and broke things. It was the innovators, the builders, the scientists, the artists, farmers and cooks that gave that society the ability to call itself a civilization and not a barbarian tribe, not the self aggrandizing leaders for the most part.

Of course, this only compares bad famous people to good non-famous people. There are obviously good famous people who represent the vanguard of progress, but the un- famous can be worthy of praise too sometimes.

The idea is to give them the spotlight by comparing the virtuous un-famous to the infamous and using the name thing as a shtick.

       Maybe "people"?

//60 second commercial spots// Ah, righty ho.

       //Maybe "people"?//

Can you still use that term? I'm not up on the latest rules.

I did find an Al Fresco in the Philippines, on facebook.
not_morrison_rm, Feb 07 2019

You might just have to make up people like I did for this example. Having to go through a list of particular names might limit your ability to find notably good people with that name.

"Genghis Edward Khan of Mill Valley California likes dogs and takes pretty good care of his lawn." might not exactly make for the most interesting programming, even for a 30 to 60 second commercial spot.

Wow, thanks for the link Big, this guy's awesome. I'll start following his posts.

Re: the story, I have no words. Just wow. Will the last sane person leaving civilization please turn the lights off?

It's important to remember that fascism never kicks down the door wearing the same uniform as last season. The swastika will be replaced by a smiley face, the jack boots with "nature compliant non triggering earth friendly " footwear and the charge won't be "being Jewish" it'll be "being youish".

Back to the idea though, I do think you'd just have to make people up. Either that or do some really good writing that makes an average Joe who just pays his taxes and takes care of his kid into a hero.

Which come to think of it, shouldn't be impossible.
doctorremulac3, Feb 07 2019

       There goes my hero,
watch him as he goes.
There goes my hero.
He's ordinary.

// an average Joe who just pays his taxes and takes care of his kid into a hero. //

"Heroes are just ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances"

       I like that.
