Vacuuming Pet Door

A ring-vacuum that goes around the pet's door.

For dogs or cats: A ring shapped vacuum cleaner attachment mounts around the pet's door to the house. When the pet sticks its head in the door, the vacuum is automatically triggered, and the pet is swept of any dirt and fleas as it wriggles through. Sure, it will scare them the first few times it goes off, but they'll get used to it.

My dog would attack this. Currently we can't vaccum in the same room as him, because he tries to bite the vaccum cleaner's head. Amusing, but not very constructive.

did you let him out of the bag, Peter?

This is a good idea. I'd buy one. If the motor/canister were far enough away from the vacuum ring/brush the noise level would be less likely to startle the animal. It could just exhaust to the outdoors, too. Plus a croissant.
PS: I'll have to try vacuuming my cat. Curious what his reaction will be.

I used to vacuum my budgie's cage. Kept my fingers crossed at all times and prayed but I hated the job. budgie died of cirrhosis - weird that!

Does it not take one realy powerful vacuum to suck a flea from a dog? The footage from people attempting that first vacuum session would be worth a fair sum.

If you had double entrance doors one could comb and one could vacuum.

I think adult fleas can be vacuumed off, which would help keep the pet from becoming infested. I don't think vacuuming can do much if the pet already has fleas living on it, but if a few jump on it when it goes out, it might get rid of them as it comes back into the house. It would certaily help with shedding. Also, great idea about venting the pet dirt to the outside, bristolz. That makes it simpler. I've heard of many people who have pets that enjoy being vacuumed, so I think almost any pet could get used to it. Combs could go in the ring with the vacuum too, rbl. That would help the cleaning action of the vacuum.

If it gets rid of loose cat hair I'm all for it. I'm sure my cats would disagree with me though.

If it doesn't suck the pet into the fanblades, it probably isn't strong enough to suck off the fleas. Fishbone.

If the vacuum had a variable motor, it could be gradualy increased over time. This would take away some of the initial shock.

Rods Tiger - i thought this was a good idea before I even got to your comment. Now I thinkit croissant worthy. I would pay money to see an electro-staticked cat being vacuumed. (Praps I shouldn't say that in a room full of strangers?)

I was hoping this would be some sort of vacuum-assist system to shoot the pet through the door quicker.

I RECENTLY BROUGHT HOME FROM WORK MY COMPANIES INDUSTRIAL HEPA VAC.. ITS ONE USED IN THE COMMERCIAL REMOVAL OF ASBESTOUS. USING THE 3INCH HOSE I FASHIONED A SMALL RING FOR MY BEAGLE TO GO THRU TO TRY THIS IDEA,, IT REALLY SOUNDED GOOD.. POOR MUFFY ALWAYS WAS ITCHING. WELL WHEN WE FIND HER WE TELL YOU IF IT WORKED OR NOT. SEE WE HEARD THE MOTOR START BEHIND THE GARAGE WHEN SHE ENTERED THE CHAMBER BUT WE HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO FIND MUFFY?

MAYBE IF YOU TURN THE VACUUM OFF, WE'LL BE ABLE TO HEAR WHAT YOU'RE SAYING, INSTEAD OF YOU HAVING TO SCREAM!
