It’s very difficult to discuss theory with a scientist without someone at some point saying, "We need a whiteboard." Well, you wouldn’t if one or both of you were wearing a whiteboard lab coat. The whiteboard lab coat looks like a regular lab coat, but it’s got a smooth surface, so you can write on it with dry-erase markers and erase it with a dry-erase eraser.

       Chalk up another for AO.

I think the wearer would have a hard time reading his own coat... you kind of need a neutral "witness" to wear the coat so both of you can scribble on him.

OTOH, it's no longer necessary for me to tape a note onto your back; now I can just _write_ "KICK ME".

Couldn't PVC acomplish this? I don't know as to what the maker make-up would have to be, but i would want one for all of my diobolical laboratory needs ...

I think the summary got caught in a fold.

They have some over in the X-ray lab, except they're blue and pretty heavy because of the lead.

// the loo you can scribble away.//

That's pretty funny :) "Hey, look at this theorem I just came up with." "OK, where is it?" "It's in the toilet. Come with me?" "But Lynda, um, that's the ladies' room!" "Come on, it's really neat! Are you sure you can't just sneak in? I promise, nobody will know."
phundug, May 03 2004

Well, I used to be a scientist myself, and I never heard anyone say they needed a whiteboard. It was always envelopes—except at lunch, when it was napkins. Actually, I guess it was mostly napkins, because we took really long lunches.

It would be undignified to wear a lab coat made of envelopes and napkins.

       Eureka is showing.

Another excuse to pontificate, procrastinate and attempt to prove we're right. Like we needed one! Nice. As long as you make them in ladies fit - normal labcoats have to be about twenty sizes to big for me to fit my curves in, which just means the sleeves are ridiculously long.

There would always be certain individuals who wanted sketches done below the waist, front and center, claiming that they had formulas they needed to save on all other areas. Those same individuals who always wear sheer running shorts under their labcoats.

“Professor, does my cosmic dark matter mass look big in this lab coat?”
FarmerJohn, May 03 2004

Once in chemistry, I used my neighbor's blazer for a blackboard. The teacher was not amused.

That's sooo baked, just google "latex nurse outfit". However, scientist in a latex nurse outfit would be a novelty. Latex stretches, so even [hazel] wouldn't have problems with curves.
kbecker, May 04 2004

It'd be great for taking notes on. If there was someway that it would only come off if you chose to erase it, that would be nice too. Many is the note that I've rubbed off on my itchy nose.
Eugene, May 04 2004

//However, scientist in a latex nurse outfit would be a novelty//

I'm not sure we need to encourage this kind of thing in a lab. Safety reasons...
hazel, May 04 2004

[Eugene] Why were you taking notes on your nose?
