Now it's a world icon and all that, one could say that London's very own, erm, London Eye has done it's job. But anybody who's been in it will tell you that it's a leeetle bit on the dull side; the capital is a higgledy-piggled mess from above, no consistency or beauty from this angle. None of the
clean lines and elegance of Paris, none of the spires and the hills of lovely Rome, not even the brave, pioneering clumps of New Yoik. In fact, the only interesting thing to look at is the London Eye. And you're already on that, remember.
And so I propose "Fast London Eye Day". This is when the big wheel, which normally inches along at the pace of a shy glacier, is turned up to max for one day only. I suggest that it be gradually accelerated until it's doing one rev per 10 secs, meaning that the capsules are kind of going around, er, 75 miles an hour-ish, albeit in a circular fasion. Thick jumpers and wooly hats would stop bruising. It might be better to put just one person in each capsule - and nicely balanced like a centrifuge, not Dawn French one side, Kate Moss the other. No, no.
Just as bridges can always bear ten times their likely maximum load, London Eyes can always go 100 times faster than their normal speed.
Bagsy me first. Another whirly Eye-type thing spinning very fast

I dunno - you might just end up talking to your dead father on a VR beach (see link). |

London is not a *mess* from any angle |

you old egyptian has-been - get your pyramid angles right before you start casting stones... |

we'll just have to agree to disagree, then! |

Yes, you leave our London alone! Having said that, the Eye would surely benefit from being speeded up a lot. [+] |

//but it don't look good from the top// I have to disagree - I had lunch up BT Tower a couple of years back, and London looks great - particularly the roof of the Great Court at the British Museum.
//Eyes can always go 100 times faster than their normal speed// They may need to swap the bus tyres that drive it for slicks. |

Great pic [po] - looks like a still from Independence Day! |

if the Eye was speeded up too much, and the axle broke, how far would it travel? |
