Instead ot having one million different I.D. , memberships and credit cards, one id card could be made with a small amount of memory in it that would store all your memberships to everything as well as credit card/interac information. If you wanted to become a member at Blockbuster video, instead of
them giving you a card, they would take your I.D. card and format it with account information and whatever else they put on them, and the same process would be done if you wanted to apply for a drivers licence, credit card, or whatever else.
When making a purchase where a membership/credit card/whatever is needed, the person would swipe their card through an interac-like machine, select through a drop down menu which membership information he would like to have displayable to the store or which credit card he would like to utilise.
I thought this might help solve the overcrowding problems most people have with there wallets.
Forgive me if some of this is poorly spelled or needs elaboration, or makes no sense whatsoever im tired and i wanted to put this up before i forgot it.

"I wonder why these aren't used in more places". Privacy issues, problems with losing one card and losing -everything-, have your wallet stolen and now they've got enough information on you to do pretty much anything they want. |

I dont know if this citycards or datacards work the same way as my idea, but they could make it so you have to enter a password before a menu of the different services is accesed and maybe even a second password to utilise that service. |

I don't understand what StarChaser is complaining about. Wallets invariably get stolen or lost as a whole. The finder or thief of the wallet gets the same amount of information, whether it's on one card or on a couple. |

The card's design would have to make sure that the readers of the card can only read those pieces of information that are relevant to them. You don't want to trust everybody with all your personal details. |

Alternately, if I could transfer data from one card to this AIO card, if the AIO card gets stolen or lost, I still have the originals. In either case, security - whether you're carrying one card or twenty - is the issue. |

But it seems like security would be easier to address with a card like this than with the multiple low-tech cards it would replace. |

If that bill passed into law, someday all informations about about you can be retrieved throught your identification number. Storing your bio-metric information on a card is very much current technology. Unless whoever find your card also find your fingerprint or retinal pattern, it will be useless to them. Once you reported the card is losted and ask for a new card, the old card automatically lost its ability to retrieve your id number, therefore invalidate itself. |

There are technologies to solve all your worries, but it will not make you comfortable accepting it. But if it is mandatory, people will get used to it. I mean how stupid was driver's license or alien registration card when it first came out. |

phoenix: i didnt mean that the card would have every privlige known to man stored into the card the second you got it. Only that if you applied for a drivers licence instead of them giving you a whole new card they would simply write that you are now certified to drive, or whatever else onto youre all in one card . |

Jutta:I really dont think haveing your credit card info on this card would be all that hazardous, do you have Interac cash cards wherever you live? With interac cards i swipe my card, punch my password into a keypad, and then select whether i want to use my checking or savings account to make a purchase with. This all in one card could act in the same manner, allowing access to one area that i selected and locking out all others, all the store owner would have to see is the words "account verified" or "transaction complete" on there screen. |

Hmm. I've heard of some variations where biometrics are used to change which ID the card is currently acting as. If you lose the card and card-changing system, you only actually lose one card (whichever card you set it to last). |
