If real presidents are anything like tv presidents, they don't expect us to be able to handle crisis situations, and keep dangerous things a secret to prevent some sort of widespread panic- while Jack Bauer usually manages to cut the right wire. I think it would be easier, and safer, for governments to train us to handle large a scale crisis.

The primary goal of this idea is safety, but the second is unity, in real crisis' often the good in people shines out, people or work together for a common goal, if we could experience that feeling on a bi-monthly basis at nationwide training sessions I think it would do a lot of good.

If you dont care about saftey or pride ....There is a sense of novelty to me in fire drills, same goes with earth quake drills, now picture the president assumes over every piece of media and demands that we immediately drop everythink barrel roll out of the room, and make our way 20 miles north and you can immagine the novelty I am trying to suggest.

       I seem to remember this in the past..

       <haze of rememberance> "Now the safest thing to do, is duck, and cover. Try it now! That's right! Duck, and cover."

       //and make our way 20 miles north//
an invasion of Canada ?

(reminds self that not everyone is from USA).

       Yes. Some of us want to invade Scotland as well.

       I'm a little young and not American to know of such measures [jamuraa] but I have heard legends of the nuclear missile proof desks that children were trained to hide under.

       [Rupert], ...well, the Hatfields apparently stole some chickens from the McCoys, then one of the McCoy boys was caught in the Hatfield barn in flagrante delicto with a goat that the Hatfields had stolen from the President of the United States and hidden in an empty moonshine barrel. It all went downhill from there, and not a single member of either family ever went to school again.

       I think I've put those words back in order.....

       Immagine our picture over the president of media. we roll the novelty barrel 20 miles north and immediately drop every piece that assumes everythink I am trying to suggest and you can make demands out of the room now!

       I think they sell Earthquake drills at Home Depot.

       "They think it's all over! It's not, it's only a drill. Well, it is all over, but not like that... erm, time for a word from our sponsor!"
