Recently I was discussing wooden flooring with a coworker. We discussed some possibilities for the base layer.
For example you could put some springy matter under some of the tiles, creating a miniature trampoline in selected areas. When kids start running and jumping around the house (the floor)
- wow! they are going to love it!! They can practice long jumps, triple jumps, back n forth jumps, and so on. You could even set a course - depending on the floor area of course. Or, you could interval/space them to practice some kind of escaping from a crocodile-infested island (Indiana Jones? 007? Simba?)
There are other possibilities too.
Well positioned springy backing at the head and bottom of staircase for the one in the hurry. Or, just a mild bounce under alternating stairs.
Plus, the surprise value.
I could not come up with the right kind of material. If powered, you can also set one up under the hoop, with a remote control.

Someone already proposed a trampoline type system for the stairs but not, I believe, the whole floor. You have high ceilings? |
|
| |
Buy a new dance floor for your ballroom. Modern ones have elastic cushions under the wood. |
|
| |
Ceiling! we'll need to pad the ceiling. |
|
| |
Go all out and use a 'pro' wrestling ring floor. |
|
| |
if you did the whole floor, there is nothing left to "discover". |

Besides, the purpose is not to dampen but provide a bounce. Maybe it's one and same thing engineering-wise, but the function is so opposite. |

It was a joke suggestion. There's a whole lotta stuff under the ring. You couldn't use it in your house without taking up the room beneath it. Gymnastics floor matting might work, though. |
