A bus that contains a large insulated resevoir holding a couple of tonnes of water. The bus uses the water to cool the engine and in the process heat the water. The exhaust gasses also are used to heat the water. At the ends of the bus line the water is pumped out into an even larger insulated resevior
and replaced with cold water.
This hot water can be collected in tankers to be sold to district heating plants. The water is then pumped into houses at night to keep them warm.
Alternatively, industrial plants that require low grade heating can be co-located near the ends of bus routes.
####### edit ########
The bus would include a shower and jacuzzi so commuters could save time to and from work.
Hot baths could be built at the start and the end of the line if no industrial users of hot water can be found. [link]

Hauling heavy water does not seem terribly efficient. |

Made me laugh. Impractical, overblown, and of minimal benefit - which kind of makes it quintessentially halfbaked. Therefore, bun. |

I've added a new feature to the idea. The bus should include showers. |

Why not save time on your commute? grab a shower on route! |

And on the way home relax and get bit snoozy with our funky new jacuzzi. |

I once came up with the idea simiar...called the "Ever Lasting Live On Bus"...There are these buses with everything people need to live...they trade the job of Bus Driver between them (among other "Work at Home" jobs on the bus)...so their jobs are right where they live. The bus has to move very little : for example to the grocer bus and the banker bus and the medical bus..and such. And, since those buses are mobile, they can meet you half way, saving all manner of fuel. Some people on the bus are writers and photographers..but they all have "at home studios" and work right there on the bus. Of course, the "Farmer Bus" is quite large as is the "Oil Well" bus...but, then, no one has to commute...it solves many, many problems of modern living. |
