friends agree on passwords.
persons in the phone's directory memory have an optional password. sms to and from that person encode/decode automatically and transparently with that password otherwise normal plaintext is used.

Actually, a security research firm just the other day discovered that it is possible to "snoop" on SMS messages sent by customers of Verizon in the US, by exploiting a flaw in their web site. See link. |

Sorry, I know I'm bitchy today. Maybe I've just seen that commercial where the guy plays 'duck duck goose" with the text messages too many times. Damned cell phone companies and their keypad typing. |
