Didn't they try this with the CueCat? My understanding is that they lost somewhere in the neighborhood of $140,000,000.00 and that hackers cracked the code almost immediately. They gave the CueCats away free, even thought they cost about $10.00 each to produce. |

The CueCat would read a special barcode off printed pages or even the televison and take you directly to the website of the manufacturer. you can still buy them on Ebay for around $3.00. You can download software and have a very inexpensive barcode reader. |
