if shown animated ads in trains and train stations, then must have cheaper tickets

There is a very annoying development recently.

Large animated advertisement (sometimes on train station platforms) on train station platform.

While small posters can be glanced at occasionally. These ones are impossible to avoid, since you are physically facing the direction to wait for the train station.

Banning it is, is not likely to happen.

But a logic could be, if we get free or cheaper TV/Youtube etc... from watching advertisement...

shouldn't we get free or at least discounted tickets from being forced to see these massive obnoxious electronic advertisement signs?

Fare revenue: $1B based on 0.5B trips. Advertising revenue $25M.

I was gonna mention "and that's gross, not net: out of the $25M comes salaries, wages and expenses, materials cost to make the posters and buswraps, and increased maintenance to clean up the grafitti and the abuse advertising attracts", but seein' as it's only 2.5% gross, it's hardly worth the bother.

So, all in, for the privilege of seeing advertising a couple hours a day in the cattle cars, the traveller saves 2-3c per trip. wut a bargoon.

It would be irresponsible of me to mention that:

       (a) You can buy 10W laser diodes on eBay for a few pounds

       (b) There are plenty of instructions on how to build these into hand-held super-power laser pointers

       (c) Such a laser pointer, if well-collimated (or carefully focussed) and aimed steadily* at an LED billboard, will quickly (<10s) destroy that pixel and, sometimes, an entire row or column.

*for example, by bracing it against a convenient pillar or lamp-post

I never contribute to anything that isn't properly apostrophized.

The laser pointer could be used to burn apostrophes on bill-boards.

A roll of anarchist posters and a pot of good glue is quicker and more effective.

Perhaps, but one of the features of illuminated, animated billboards is that they tend to be conspicuous, even at night. The odds of your being able to erect a ladder, climb it, paste a poster over the billboard, and climb down again without being noticed are quite slim.

A high-power laser pointer can be used quite discreetly.
