       A bit, but because the sudoku is setting the uniqueness frame , the diagonals can have repeating numbers unlike kakuro's verticals and horizontals.*   

       * assuming my knowledge of both games is correct.

       Actually, any continuous shape on the Sudoku grid could have a bold frame and sum. A Tetris -like Sudoku Kakuro hybrid.
