military degrader
machine guns loaded with chisel bullets to cut rock

The bullets have a chisel face tip to chip out rock on impact .

+ mass production of shells easy . + use for all those weapons . - creating mass to remove .

Is a 'mass hit' or 'explosion hit' better for rock cutting ?

Short name, e.g., Bob's Coffee

Destination URL. E.g., http://www.coffee.com/

What are you degrading here? Enemy fortifications, or something?

// mass production of shells easy //

Easy perhaps, but not cheap. This is not cost-effective at all, and is very dangerous since you'd have bullets ricocheting all over the place. Sorry, not a good idea. -

Better to be blasting the shit out of the rockface than out of Shiites or Sunnis or American soldiers, methinks. +

I don't even understand what this idea is. [-]

Could be handy in some tight spaces where you can't swing a hammer, but still stick in a gun barrel.

Depends. You get 2D+4 for your standard bullet, and then you need to know the HP of the wall.

Does it have any magical armour we should know about?

I don't think these chisel-faced bullets will interact well with rifled gun barrels...

       Or fly very true.

Which isn't a problem if you're not trying to snipe the rock face from half a mile. It does, however, preclude the ammunition being used for less peaceful purposes.

Not sure of the use for this though; I'd suggest it might be quite expensive.

I like this idea as a means of producing sculpture. I posted an idea once about using shotguns and spraypaint to produce art, but deleted after I realized I had probably read about William Burrough's endeavors in this medium, then half remembered it as my own idea.

I can imagine a project in which a soft substrate is used (soapstone? alabaster? sandstone? wax? plastic? ) and carved using bullets. Each piece would be rendered (in all senses) with a different caliber weapon. There would be a lot of trial and error. One might want to use a tripod.

Thought (or lack of it..) The bullet would have a tip like a pick but its weight is such that on impact fall off centre to chip out rock . The bullet body would be hard enough to get to the rockface but soft enough to transfer weight and deform to counter ricochet .

more targeted than blasting , human shaped tunnels . more fun ??? If rock is the source , shouldn't we open up more of it .

I think you'd be quite surprised at how precise blasting can be. How do you think they carved the faces in Mt. Rushmore?

       Concrete?

DrCurry, Sep 06 2007

       Dynamite...then concrete.
