multi-speed door closer

Allows you to chose the speed a door closes for courtesy or security.

My idea is for a hydraulic door closer that works in concert with a special pushbar on the door that would have two large push buttons, a "delayed close" push button that would keep the door open for a few seconds, as a courtesy to people folowing behind you that you recognise but dont have time to interact with.

The Push bar would also have a "fast close" button that would make the door slam shut (and presumably lock) behind you for occasions when you dont recognize the person behind you and wish to make sure that the person behind you cant rush up and gain entrance to the building.

P.S I know all hydraulic closers can be tweaked so you can adjust the timing, but this usually requires a stepladder, screwdriver, and some tinkering, therefore my idea is original in that it allows you to change the door timing in a moment.

       thanks bliss!

And WcW. what are the drawbacks/risks are involved with my idea?

as someone incapable of even reading the Push/Pull Signs i'd appreciate a little more intuitiveness in the interface - How about a mechanism not totally unlike the Assisted Braking in cars: It senses the way you open the door (just barely, wide swinging motion, fast opening with a hint of slamming shut etc) and makes adjustments to the closing accordingly.

I really like the delayed closing feature. (+) I'd buy one. I hate the semi-distant follower issue. I either stay and hold the door open and make that person rush, or leave and almost close the door in their face.

This also seems easy to do, have a bar on the inside that resets when closed, but if open and pushed on will delay the door closing for 15 seconds. If pulled when door open then the door will almost slam shut behind you.

The more I think about this the more I like it. Please bake this and I'll have our doors replaced.
