So you are really inspired and you make a song, and but you dont
write it down because your coughing too hard, and the next
morning, you cant remember anything except that there is a big
guitar solo about a goat man.
It would really cool if there were software programs that could listen
in
on your music sessions and write out sheet music for you simply by
listening to you play. Im sure this is already possible as there are
already applications that can recognize and identify existing songs,
why couldn't there be a program that can identify note by note?

Because of artistic license, your idea of a dotted eighth-note may
be what the computer considers a sixteenth-note.
Standardization would be difficult, I expect. (Neutral) |

It's difficult, but there's some software in this space; here, have some links. But is it really so hard to become fluid in music notation? If you're writing songs at all, it seems like a really basic, generally useful skill to have. Alternatively, a dictaphone would take care of those times where you really can't be bothered to write it down. |

...a dictaphone that recognises and dictates musical notes

i imagine part of the technology is baked, as there are apps
for the iphone that will tall you the name of any song played
near the mic. |
