never oversleep again

The problem with most mattresses is they are too comfortable, you start lieing on one for a few hours and you never want to get up. Sure, they have alarms clocks whose jarring noises can shock you out of your sleep for a moment, but they cant keep you in that state of alertness of for a long enough perioud of time, and dont remove the comfort factor of you bed at all.

My idea is for a bed with a built-in wake up feature, you simply set what time you want to get up, and when your bed/alarm goes off in the morning hydraulics within the bed activate and raise one side of the bed incramentallly over the period of minutes. The objective wouldnt be to toss you out of bed, only to give you a feeling of impending danger.

By incramentally tilting the bed it would give the sleeper a gradually increasing sense of impending danger, thus making him or her gradually more and more alert, and would kick start the wakeing up process.

We could use this technology [Canuck, Oct 04 2004, last modified Oct 05 2004]

Reminds me of that idea with the mattress getting up and running outside. Was that a fire-protection idea? memory fuzzy...

I unfortunately live with an ass hole. He manages (at least once a week) to come in at 5am after going on a heavy drinking session and wakes me up to the point that I am alert and ready to start the day. He does this by simply doing the most shocking things. He has tried to climb into bed with me, pee'd in the wardrobe and tried to push me out of bed (on the last one, he actually slipped, and went straight over me and fell on the floor - I woke up because I was laughing so much). If you could have - hire an asshole to wake you up, you would never be late again, similarly to this idea, because of the impending danger.

[miasere] not too sound too righteous or admonishing but, wow, you need another place to live.

Im moving out in a few weeks - its just temporary, like my contact with the asshole.

       Good.

Instead of the expensive (and potentially dangerous - see new TV show "Beds Gone Wild!") hydraulics, we could migrate the inner-ear stimulation technology from AAAAAAAAAAAAAH! by madcat (see link) to simulate the action of the bed tilting. Much less equipment needed, and a lot less disturbing if you happen to have a civilized bedmate with a different wake-up time.

miasere - Good luck getting out of that situation sooner than later.

Darn, I was going to post this idea – ya beat me to it. (+)

Sounds like miasere’s ‘friend’ has figured out a way to bake the “AAAAAAAAAAAAAH!” idea.
