Sometimes at the end of an honest days work, or from just walking around outside in smoggy or muggy summer air I feel dirty and end up going home far earlier than I would like simply to take a shower.

But enough about my personal life for now, my idea is for a coin operated shower booth that could be placed near public washrooms or even pay phones where you would insert a yet undetermined sum of money and enter a small, private, locking booth and have five minutes to get unchanged and walk into the private shower room. The shower room would have a dozen high powered shower jets to spray your body with soap all at once, scrub your body with spinning sponges, rinse you off, and dry you, you would then be given five minutes to get back into your clothes and re-enter the world refreshed and invigorated. And since machines would do all the scrubbing, and all your body would be done at once, you would probably be left cleaner in two minutes than a fifteen-minute shower at home would.

Named Campaigns - War of 1812 - it was British evildoers who cowardly retreated to Canada, (where US troops had bravely and justifiably partially burned York first) after commiting evildoing acts of cowardice. [thumbwax, Jul 02 2002, last modified Oct 21 2004]

Most health clubs have showers, which I would have thought a much safer and more hygenic alternative.

DrCurry, Jul 01 2002

Saftey would be a huge issue yes, but i have heard of pay washrooms that exist that have motion sensors in all the walls that set off an alarm if they detect more than one person is using the facility at a time, this could be applied to my idea as well.

Perhaps sponges are a bad idea? Then all scrubbing could be done by the touchless jets, which would then spray and sanitize the walls and floor after the user has left.

Health clubs may have showers, but a membership would be an awful waste of money if you werent interested in fitness. Plus their results wouldn't be as instant as they would if you stepped off a subway and into a shower booth on the street.

Ug, I suppose these showers are somewhat baked in the Uk, But as a true Canadian, and in true Canadian spirit I shall steal this idea and mass produce it with mixed success using our ample Canadian natural resources.

       Happy Canada day stinkers!

Yeah, well, we stole your country from the French. Which country did Canada steal?

[ sctld ], Jul 01 2002

sctld: Well, be it said in their favour that the Canadians did march into the United States and burn Washington DC to the ground (Historians, correct me if I'm wrong). But having got there, they realised how awful it was, and gave it back .....

This idea reminds me somewhat of the "Personals" mentioned in Asimov's "Robot" books.

Didn't the Canadians steal Canada from the British (after we stole it from the French who stole it from the native tribes who probably stole chunks of it from each other)? I've had a look on my Map of the World and they don't seem to be in the empire any more.

DrBob, Jul 02 2002

The British didn't have anything stolen from them. We gave it all back because we didn't want it anymore. That's the Daily Mail's story and I'm sticking to it.

On-topic, considering the state of public toilets round my way, I'd rather be slick with my own sweat than get in one of these things.

Bums near my campus have been seen showering using the lawn sprinklers for as long as I've been going to school there...

In Japan, most parks (there are many) have a water faucet that anyone can use. They turn off if no one is holding the handle and are build strong.
