shape memory alloys are a new sort of metal that can be severely deformed, but upon application of an electric current to the metal, the metal regains its original shape; as if the electricity helped the metal remeber its original configuration.

I suggest we make cars out of this stuff. After a crash, you need not get the frame fixed, just plug it into an outlet and it straigten's out.

       IIRC SME's only regain shape for a limited level of deformation, beyond which regeneration will not recover the original shape. Please correct me if I'm wrong.   

       I'd imagine most of the damage in a decent car crash would be beyond the capabilities of SME regeneration to fix.   

       Oh, and SME's are all rather expensive.

       Have you seen Terminator 3? There's a car Arnold smashes up that they could put back together... I don't think it was quite like this though.
