Every time I go to the thrift store, I see the section devoted to cast-off plush toys, and it makes me sad. My idea is to buy them all, eviscerate them, sew them into one big blob, fill them with beans (or whatever they fill beanbag chairs with) and sit on them. It would be the world's most comforting chair.

not your idea, but a giant beanbag animal nonetheless [napoleonbag, Jul 14 2008]

Not a bean bag chair, not skinned. They've done (IMHO better looking) more homogenous chairs, among others in teddybears only and toy crocodiles only. [jutta, Jul 14 2008]

Again, on a wire mesh chair, not stuffed. [jutta, Jul 14 2008]

So, um, why don't you do that thing? I've seen worse in art galleries.

My wife recently made a giant bean bag bear for my 3-year-old grandson. It's basically a bean bag made out of furry material with a bear's head. She also included cuddly arms suitable for wrapping around small children...

never mind the category but those button eyes are feckin' uncomfortable

It would be an interesting Moreauesque hybrid of the cuddly and freakish. Plus functional! I likes. Do it up, saxy.

Ah, the Thing. What a fine film. One of the best endings of any movie, period.

For some reason, I get this image of roadkill, sort of splatted on the floor with legs akimbo.
Ling, Jan 17 2008

Wasn't Legs Akimbo a dancer on the old Muppet Show?
Canuck, Jan 17 2008

[bungston], I've not seen The Thing so could you gauge the ending in comparison to Invasion of the Bodysnatchers (the 1978 version)¿ which in my opinion is the best ending of all time.

I bunned the idea by the way. It's like Frankenstein's pooch.
theleopard, Jan 17 2008

[theleopard], I envy the fact that you have not seen the Thing, because now you can rent it and see it for the first time. Do not read or attempt to learn more about it on the web. Just get it and watch. The opening is pretty amazing too. This is the John Carpenter Thing. The black and white original version has its charms as well.

The ending of the Thing is better, because it is truly metaphysical and can be interpreted on many levels.

... but the end of Silent Running is more of a tear-jerker .....

Is there anything you do like?
theleopard, Jan 18 2008

This would be good for the environment too. Love it.
futurebird, Jan 18 2008

[bungston], got round to watching it the other day. Not as terrifying an ending as Bodysnatchers, to be sure, but certainly one to mull over for a few hours. Another Kurt Russell masterpiece.

I wouldn't want to sit on it though. The thing that is, not Kurt Russell.

Actually... neither, come to think of it.
theleopard, Jul 14 2008

(+) Don't eviscerate them. Just sew them together, with their little paws and snouts and whatever hanging out. Would work well for a beanie baby fur coat, too. (You'd have to trade the stuffing for something more lightweight, though.)
jutta, Jul 14 2008

If you're gonna make a fur coat, you have to make it entirely out of dalmatian plushes and dye a streak in your hair.

       Rules, and all.
shapu, Jul 16 2008

Used plush toys carry the ghosts of lost childhood, bribery, false demonstrations of love, spittle, and dirt.

       That's not comfortable.
mylodon, Jul 18 2008

I was thinking about this idea, and even before opening it back up was pondering the ghosts of lost childhood imbued in these objects. Stranger in a Strange Land had a term for this concept, I think - that psychic residua persist in objects, and for this reason the Martians had to desert their cities after a while.

Psychic residua. Who needs it?? I say go to Build a Bear and get a bunch of fresh skins, then put them together. I think being a shoggothy amalgam is a destiny just as good for a teddy bear skin.

Also, one would need fewer skins to make a coat than a bean bag, and no stuffing required either.
