How about a robot with insightful interviewing skills (a la Terry Gross), but is also remarkably deferential (like a geisha)? She would be fascinated by you and everything you have to say!
Turning the tables on Terry Gross
http://www.salonmag.../cov_22feature.html Background for those wondering "Terry Who?"; Salon Magazine, June 1998. [jutta, Aug 28 2000]

She is the best interviewer in the world. Easily. I am amazed at her insight and thorough understanding of the subjects she encounters. My choice for "best person to have over to dinner." |
|
| |
I think part of what we're all amazed at is simply that she Does Her Homework, something that most current underpaid, overworked rush job journalists don't have the time to do. |
|
| |
(That means that you'll have to tell the robot an evening in advance what you'll want to talk about the next day, which will give you time to deepen your own understanding, and the robot time to do lots of websearches and OCR the book.) |

That word in the 'Turning the tables on Terry Gross' link, kaffeklatsch, is unpronouncæble! If the bot can say that and 'Darling' like ZaZa depending on whether the boardroom or the balcony, I'll be cashin in my pop bottles to buy me one |
|
| |
Terry Gross probably gets home from work and doesn't want to talk to ANYBODY. :) |
|
| |
And now for something completely different: There's a guy up in Ann Arbor named Todd Mundt who is... well, not quite a female Terry Gross but he's my other favorite interviewer. So do we need a Todd Mundt gigolo robot coffeemaker? |
|
| |
P.S. Kaffeeklatsch is pronounced "Coffee clatch." Hardly unpronounceable. ;) |
|
| |
"not quite a female Terry Gross..." Terry Gross IS female, arghblah. |
|

My Terry Gross rant is that she often Does Not Get Humor. She does her homework, she sticks to her list of questions, and she's about as much in the conversation as Al Gore on Darvon at a Klingon convention. |
|
| |
She seems to laugh an appropriate amount whenever I have heard her. |
|
| |
[yppiz], you must listen to a different Terry Gross than the one I've heard. |

The magic of radio, the link corrected my assumption that a lot of people seemed to cycle through Philly. |
