(This idea is from a dream I had, so I hope I can write it as nice as the dream was!)
A gallery that is quite Zen in concept- this gallery has openings in the walls for viewing. One cannot see the actual sculpture or work of art because of the angle and positioning of walls. There is a pond beneathe
the artwork where one can see the reflection of the piece. Lighting is essential and there would be several sets of lights to change angles. (Possibly on a timer done at random intervals.)
Reflections tend to move and change with slight movements of the water. This would make for slight changes or perceptions of the original piece, also. There would be some type of wind or wave machine to produce more changes in the pond water, therefore changing the reflections even more.

Nice. This art gallery also needs a conceptual art room, in which no art is actually displayed - all there is are the printed signs on the wall describing each work of art. The point about conceptual art seems to be the concept, rather than the execution and craft of the physical object, so it is truer to the ethos of this kind of art to allow the viewer to imagine the work, rather than creating a physical manifestation of it. |

I saw a piece of art in an airport that this idea remidns me of. It was a projector depicting an aquarium against a wall. As passers by walked in front of the wall, of course we cast shadows. However, the aquarium rippled and changed in front of our cast shadows, as though the shadows had substance and were moving thru the aquarium. |

I understand about walking in front of projectors and casting a shadow, an activity I have enjoyed many times. I am not sure how our shadows were detected. |

I saw something like that at Kinetica in London - you
could interact with a giant starfish-like creature
projected onto the floor. |

If you look very closely at the reflection, you'll see that I am displaying a virtual croissant. But wait! What's that? Is that a fishbone lurking beneath the lightly-rippling surface of the pond? Drat! I can't quite make it out in this light. |

O-o-o-oh! I see it now. It's the croissant that's underwater and the fishbone is actually swimming around in the air above. How'd they do that? |
