3:28am... I could stand it no longer. I reached across my alarm clock's cool blue display, for my telephone.

The dispatcher told me it would be 15 minutes, if I'd like to make myself a glass of warm milk and watch a little TV.

13 minutes later a man who looked suspiciously like Vin Diesel knocked on my door and came in. He sprayed my arm with something in a spray can, catching me on the way to the floor.

7:20am... It's worn off, whatever it was. I feel energised and aware. My house is tidy, there are fresh flowers in a vase in the dining room and my lawn appears to have been mown. zZz is worth every cent.

At least sleeplessness is useful for something. [UnaBubba, Oct 06 2006]

Annotation:

This kind of reminds me of the film "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" - I can imagine Vin signalling to his girlfriend that the coast is clear before darting in and looking for the drinks cabinet...[+] anyway for a novel alternative to insomnia.

It's actually 01:10, but no, I was posting another idea, about immortal insects and arachnids. <later> Make that 02:00hrs. I'm having trouble with a warm night and a few cups of coffee with last night's birthday dinner for my son.

We can arrange a reasonable facsimile of whichever "celebrity" takes your fancy, [z_t].

       //zZz is worth every cent.//

So UnaBubba... what kind of service fees are we looking at here?

21 Quest, Oct 06 2006

I just told you: It's worth every cent.

You want to put a price on being able to sleep at night?

UnaBubba, Oct 06 2006

I have trouble sleeping sometimes too, but I turn to less extreme solutions like melatonin which works just fine (apart fromt he fact that it often gives you mentalist dreams) However [+] still, as I like the idea.

shinobi, Oct 07 2006

I got to sleep at about 3:40. Then I woke up at 5:45. I hate that.

UnaBubba, Oct 07 2006

UnaBubba, I'm not saying it's not worth a high price. A Ferrari or a Porsche is worth every penny. But if this is something, like a Porsche, that only the wealthy can afford, then I'm not supporting it because then, as I lay awake all night long, I'll be thinking how much better everyone else (who has money) is sleeping. This kind of thing will have passive-aggressive insomniacs going postal all over the country.

21 Quest, Oct 07 2006

That depends upon what they do to the civilians there, I would suggest.

UnaBubba, Oct 07 2006

Bun, big, glazed, butter drenched bun, with fresh fruit and the beverage of your choice.

-I'd like to know what pharmaceutical product they’ll be using, however. As a long-term insomniac (My record is 4 nights in a row totally sleep free) I’ve found that chemically assisted sleep is almost not worth it. I wake up feeling poo, un-rested, and then there’s the whole dependency thing.

Custardguts, Oct 08 2006

I'm no pharmacist, but the only thing I've found that really works is 1 or 1.5mg of Alprazolam (Kalma).

That stuff knocks me out for about 4 hours and I wake up feeling much, much better. You have to be careful of addiction, though.

UnaBubba, Oct 09 2006

I sometimes make up a dream seed. After stretching & popping, etc, I imagine myself in a highly improbable situation and start to think of what fun I could have in that situation.

Zimmy, Oct 10 2006

sorry UB but I seriously can't get further than the idea of Rohypnol...

po, Oct 10 2006

       Someone used Roofies on you?

UnaBubba, Oct 10 2006

       is that what its called?

       nah - much too careful.

po, Oct 10 2006

I see a lot of claims of people having drinks spiked. Seems a convenient excuse for getting shitfaced and not wanting to accept responsibility for your actions.

UnaBubba, Oct 10 2006

       Try Gamma-Hydroxybutyrate (GHB)

(I mean try it for this "product" not actually btw, unless you want too ;-) I have never tried it so I could not comment on that.)

       See link

webfishrune, Oct 11 2006

To get to sleep? There are some dangers associated with GHB that I think I'd rather avoid. Not least of them is a stint in the big house if you are caught using it.

UnaBubba, Oct 11 2006

/Zimmy/ tell me more about dream seeds?
