One at the top, one on the left and one on the right. The 2 on the sides halfway between the top and bottom of the set. (note: these are in addition to the one already on the lower part of the set) No more hyperextending one's arms or having to stand up to achieve line-of-sight between the remote and the receiver. No matter what position you're reclining in, no matter how many beer bottles are lined up in front of the TV, if you can see any edge of the TV, your remote can reach it.

Just a thought, is it possible to put the IR receiver behind the screen itself? If you don't have line-of-sight to that, you're not watching television.

this could also be used to give lightgun capabilities to the remote. the principle is usually the other way round, receivers in the gun, four leds at the corners, but i see no problem in changing that.

If it's on the bottom of the set, IR is never going to penetrate the solid wood of your TV table.
Point your screen at the ceiling, and all will be well.

Daseva, that doesn't make this Baked, it' not the same thing at ll! I don't want to increase the range, I don't want to buy an extra acessory, and I'm pretty sure you still have to have line of sight between the remote and the extender for it to work. Not the same method, not the same technology, and not the same result, thus not baked.

crack the set open, remove the IR receiver and put an "extension cord" on it to any point in the room. Or strategically place an ornamental mirror :)

alternatively paint the room in material(s) that reflect IR instead of absorbing it... interesting question to pose when buying a new home: "is the paint in the den IR reflective?"

If you have a powerful enough LED, the IR light will "bounce" of the ceiling and walls.
