If an aircraft flies with in an Aircraft Self Destruct Zone (usually located around large metropolitan areas and outside the landing corridor of the airport) Flight control will notify the pilot and activate onboard self destruct sequence.
If the Pilot fails to enter a Please don't blow me up PIN and does not immediately take action to leave Self Destruct Zone, a charge in the planes fuel tank will go off and sacrifice all passengers in order to prevent a repeat of the World Trade Center disaster.-- Zimmy, May 17 2003 It's always risky when you have those onboard self destruct systems.-- calculust, May 17 2003 ...another reason to take a train.-- oatcake, May 17 2003 Geee, because that sounds so much better. Besides, how the hell are you going to get people on to these planes? And last I checked most commercial air traffic is, surprise surprise, in and out of large metropolitan areas.-- belg4mit, May 17 2003 Could be very useful for areas suffering aircraft noise ...-- Aristotle, May 19 2003 Hey, wow, now terrorists don't need to hijack planes, they just take over the control tower, threaten the pilot with self destruct if he doesn't fly over, say, the Pentagon, and then blow up the plane anyway.-- egbert, May 19 2003 Now, not only do the terrorists not have to bring their own bomb, since one is provided, but they can cause a rain of fire and brimstone over any major metropolitan area they like. Yes Mr. Terrorist, I agree, you should be allowed to play God.-- wittywastrel, May 19 2003 "No more intentional accidents" - but lots and lots of unintentional ones. Big flaming nuclear fishbone.-- DrCurry, May 19 2003 What about the Pilot's PIN?-- Zimmy, May 23 2003 Whoever posted this needs to enter his PIN... NOW!!!-- zigness, Feb 24 2004 Why not just no-fly zones where you cant fly. Then if someone does enter it, authorities know something is wrong but have a chance to correct it. If it is a serious problem, they can shoot the plane down.-- bovinemilk, Feb 25 2004 I've heard of that before, i think it was called a no fly zone or something-- BikBear, May 06 2004 The idea of "a charge in the planes fuel tank" worries me...-- MikeOliver, May 06 2004 What if the pilot was just unconscious and no one was hyjacking it?-- DesertFox, May 06 2004 What if someone copied the frequency?-- -----, Dec 08 2004 halfbakery
