In building with community bathrooms where janitorial quickly mop and move one from one floor to another, there just isn't time to put down and pick up wet floor signs. This wet floor sign mounts on the entrance door to the bathroom. Normally, it is a tamper-proof, vanadalism-resistant, featureless box. After the janitor finishes mopping, they simply insert their key into the bottom and pull out the "wet floor" sign panel. This starts a spring timer that causes the sign to snap back up when the floor has dried.

(Alternately one can imagine this idea consisting of electronically controlled signs, that, in a horror movie where the building is controlled by an obligatory Murderous Giant Computer(tm) the floors are soaked and the signs retracted, thus causing people to break their necks and die.)

I'd prefer little robot 'Wet Floor' cones, which could wander the building, beeping plaintively until they found a puddle they could congregate round.
And there'd always be a couple hanging out by the water cooler.

Or, use tiles that colour-change to a "Warning - wet floor" pattern on contact with water.

Now *that's* a good idea. When I was at college, there was a competition from a leading manufacturer of laminated flooring to produce the 'next generation of flooring'. Wish I'd thought of that.
