Roland pushed away from the rail, hunched forward with eyes focussed gimly on the distant wall. He could hear the harsh, scrabbling sounds of his "pusher", straining for purchase on the ice.

He glanced down, to check on his bindings... they looked snug and tight... this could be a world record, right here.

As his speed gathered he assumed the lowest, most streamlined shape he could manage. He felt the last shove, as his pusher dropped away.

While the banana peels abraded away on the ice he continued on, in a roughly straight line, passing the 60 metre mark, still travelling at a goodly pace. Finally, he slowed, coming to a halt at 93 metres. Not quite a world record, but close.

He checked his soles. The peels had worn through, completely.

um, so they're an alternative type of ice skates. i can see the competition part, but not why you'd want to use banana peels. they're not all that slick, but on groomed ice they wouldn't abrate so badly.
