Do not insert anything which is not a finger

You put your hand or foot on this device, on a metal plate. The device analyzes the hand or foot. It then securely straps the hand or foot down along with each finger or toe. Using the shape data gathered it uses a tiny angle grinder to grind away nails to the length requested. Some shaping is possible.

Customer: “I’m not sure about having mini-angle grinders moving closer and closer to my feet. I assume it’s passed all sorts of rigorous safety checks?”

Salesman: “Well that’s a completely rational thing to assume. All our products have been tested for safety”

... and none of them have come to any harm.

It turns out they're surprisingly easy to clean, too.

Not going anywhere near it. Revise the entry from a personal hygiene device to a weapon, where it belongs.

A curved metal plate might tuck in above the toe but below the nail to serve as a barrier, such that the grinder cannot contact the toe.
