Where I drive (upstate New York), theres a significant danger of deadly collisions with deer, which overpopulate the area. Theyre especially difficult to detect (until its too late) at night.
Those infra-red (or whatever they are) glasses used in the movies, and by the military? Use the technology in windshields for avoidance of warm-blooded creatures crossing the road. I imagine seeing, around the bend, color-outlined deer-shapes, allowing the driver to adjust speed and heading until the danger is passed.
Precise implementation of this technology is not known to me. [bristolz, Oct 04 2004, last modified Oct 21 2004] Night Vision technology has already been implemented by GM. Since the 2000 model year the Cadillac DeVille has had the option of adding a Night Vision system. The system uses an advanced infrared camera and a HUD (head-up display). Unfortunately It's only available in the DeVille and Being a Cadillac it doesn't come cheep(Over $50k). For more information see the [link].-- Nzorn, Feb 08 2003 halfbakery
