That'll wake yer up!-- Haemavore, Sep 20 2000 Jolt Cereal ... all the sugar and twice the caffeine.-- arghblah, Oct 29 2000 Kellog's Crystal Meth Flakes. Yum.
As to the chocolate cereals having caffeine. Chocolate has a naturally occuring alkaloid, theobromine, that is similar to caffeine but not quite the same. It does behave as a stimulant.
I've recently read that, curiously, theobromine is quite poisonous to canines, with 4 oz. of dark chocolate capable of killing a 10 lb dog.-- bristolz, Oct 29 2000 What about just spiking the milk with caffeine? Same effect, and you're not limited to certain brands of cereal, or even to cereal itself. Imagine the power that caffeinated cheese, for example, would have to improve people's lives.
I envision this as being along the same lines as the recent enthusiasm for fortifying all sorts of things -- water, orange juice -- with calcium.-- Monkfish, Oct 29 2000 Caffeinate the sugar used also and you're all set, for both cereal and coffee.-- PotatoStew, Dec 29 2000 Many people drink cola in the morning who do not like coffee.-- Vance, Jan 29 2001 Why not just try cola on your cornflakes?
I know it tastes like hell if you rinse your mouth out with cola while cleaning your teeth (in bachelor days I was less responsible)-- UnaBubba, Feb 03 2001 cola on your cornflakes is just bad. hey, i was 12 years old! (a huge difference from now where i just eat 3 or 4 teaspoons of fresh ground coffee before work)-- xunshin, Aug 09 2001 Sounds like a good idea to me. I don't drink coffee in the morning, and sometimes I'd like an extra boost. It'll be a riot.-- raisin, Aug 07 2003 +for the idea and the laugh.-- crispee, Aug 07 2003 I'm with Monkfish on the caffeinated milk idea, just so I can have caffeinated custard - yum-- seedy em, Aug 07 2003 You drag yourself out of bed in the morning and shamble to the kitchen, blinking in the light from the fridge as you peer myopically at the contents of the shelves. Suddenly, your heart plummets into your fuzzy slippers as you espy the (gasp!) nearly empty milk container. Oh no! The terrible choice lies before you - coffee, or cereal? Well, you could pour coffee _on_ your cereal, but what if you (double gasp!) have no coffee !?
Now introducing (wait for it ) Coffee Krispies! (any resemblance to a well-known cereal or candy bar is purely coincidental - really! ;-)
And for our friends across the pond who may feel that we've neglected to provide them the opportunity for a taste of _their_ favourite beverage in the morning (no, not Guinness), we now offer tiny letter-shaped cereal bits infused with essence of camellia sinensis, appropriately named (raises tomato shield) "Tea & A's" .-- Elmer Phd, Jun 11 2004 Take a Pro Plus and a Nicotenel and wash 'em down with a Red Bull.... Also, spacecoyote, I can tell you from experience that one can inhale caffeine without instant death.
