Sport: Billiards
magnetic billiards   (+4, -1)  [vote for, against]
for pros (and ameteurs who dont mind losing) only

Give the backs of the pockets and all of the balls the same polarity via a small magnet located at the heart of every ball. This would add another level onto shot selection - obviously the magnets on the pockets would have to be weak, or most shots would be impossible, but it would give the game a whole new dimension. You could also have a remote that changes the polarity of, say, the colours every two shots etc.

A whole new world has been opened up!

Magnetic Pool Magnetic_20Pool
Looks Halfbaked to me. [DrCurry, Jul 18 2005]

over time, they would all drift to the north edge of the table.

[dbmag9] the magnets would be small, not strong enough to drag the entire ball over the cloth/baize. Just big enough to add some exitement to the game.

It was a positive comment, no need to be defensive. I have a fun image of someone shooting a ball and the entire table errupting into total chaos, with balls flying away from each other and making a massive chain reaction that would only subside after a few hours.

Introduce a (very small) hamster ball into the table and enjoy the ensuing catastrophe!

Install these on your parabolic pool table and you'll really mess up your head.

This would actaully make an interesting computer flash game or something simple of the sort. I've seen hundreds of pool games as well as magnet-based games. I dont see why a well trained programmer couldnt accomplish this.
