moon advertising   (-4)  [vote for, against]
put a billboard on the moon

Erect a giant lcd screen on the surface of the moon. The advertising revenue generated in the first year should easily cover the cost of putting it there.

Billboard on the moon. http://www.marcogiu...esti/000641_02.html

Essentially the same idea. [kropotkin, Oct 17 2004]

Baked? http://www.moonvertising.com
Rolling Rock is a crap beer posing subtly as a Microbrew. Someone oughtta claim a sort of half-baked prior art. Or at least idea infringement... [globaltourniquet, Mar 21 2008]

Preheated,by Robert Heinlein.

In one of his novels, an entrepenuer raising money for a moon mission designs a rocket that will distribute black powder on the moon in the shape of a Seven-Up logo.

He then offers Pepsi the rights to buy an exclusive "No Logos On The Moon" advertising campaign.

(Celebrity soft drinks impersonated....)

you'd only get revenues if people could actually see the adverts. To see them, it would have to be a mighty screen, beyond which we could manufacture currently and certainly way more than we could ship to the moon.

Why would people go look? People don't generally go out of their way to see/watch adverts.

Haven't we smothered this dull topic within an inch of it's life?
-- k_sra, Jan 29 2004

[mattas8472] you are thinking in the right light. just keep at it... the treasure trove is out there!
-- nomadic_wonderer, Jan 29 2004

Why not sell advertising space on the surface of your butt? Its bigger and more likely to be noticed in high-rent metro areas.

I wouldn't suggest getting a contract with "7- up" though...
-- timbeau, Jan 29 2004

hey [timbeau] this might amuse you. there is a company here in the US that places temporary tattoos on interns as asks them to walk around town. they get paid by the advertisers. I think its a fat idea!
-- nomadic_wonderer, Jan 29 2004

Is there a fundamental difference between an advertising billboard on the moon and a logo on the moon? We've already discussed a MoonLogo (link). .
-- kropotkin, Jan 29 2004

please forgive me if some of my ideas have already been submitted to the bakery. Ive only been here a few days and havent had time to read through the whole site.

use the Search, Luke :)

As much as I'm frankly opposed to this idea (Romantism Rules!), why not try a laser-emitting satellite net to project the logos. There seems to be a lot of LCD fans around here. Oh, and about redundance, lists, advocacy and the sort, is there anywhere to find the "rules" (or what gets the closest to it)?

Leave the moon alone.
-- waugsqueke, Jan 29 2004

Link. The flash ad on TheOnion.com had that, and I knew we had done it already...

Pre-heated by AC Clarke, shooting sodium ions through a shaped nozzle up from the Moon's surface into the solar wind. Again, I think soft drinks featured large.
