Audiobooks for educating children living in poverty

Think of vinyl records in book format and the needle is connected to a stethoscope.

This is actually one of my first real ideas and dates back to 2015’ish. Such a shame I’m so lazy to be putting it to writing online now.

So you take vinyl sheets in the shape of pages, create grooves with writing along the top of them, and drag a needle pen connected to an earpiece like the one in stethoscopes. That way you can mass produce physical audiobooks, which would be especially useful for educational purposes for children whose families can’t afford schools that have digital facilities. Or schools at all, really.

Dictabelt https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dictabelt
I had an aunt who dictated novels into a dictabelt machine. We contacted the Dictaphone company, and they wanted to have it for their museum. That's not your idea, as the belts were recorded one at a time, while you were presumably pressing the sound patterns into a book. [Richard K, Aug 20 2026]

A digital version of this was central to the plot of science fiction novel "The Diamond Age".

Now I'll have to go see if I still have my copy ... That was an odd novel.
