This is a wide-bladed butter knife but the leading edge is made like the draw knife or plane for hard cheese. Passing the flat of the knife across cold butter will yield thin curls of butter that quickly come to room temp for spreading.

Existing Butter Knife.

The physics are the same but the resulting product is different. It's much thinner and longer. The main axis of the CBN is held perpendicular to the stick or block of butter and the slot along the front edge makes a wide, thin curled shaving like a breaking wave as it is drawn across the top, so that it can be spread by the flat of the knife. |

Think of the protected edge of a wood plane along the slotted blade of the knife, and when a nice thin curl is made it can be easily spread on soft rolls or fragile crackers. |

I got one of the ones in the link but though it was entertaining, it sucked as a solution for cold butter and ease of use and care. Wormy piles built up on the flat. Hard to evenly spread. Holes never clear and are hard to clean; waste butter. The CBK clears easily, does not need to be sharp, and also, is entertaining. It makes curls as wide as the butter and evenly spread on the flat. |
