If you want to keep your grocery purchases in top shape for longer than usual, you know that touching as little as possible and reducing the air around refrigerated foods is a big help.
I squeeze and press, and inhale and zip, and it's a PITA. If I had a CVP that I could use to remove most of the
air from plastic storage bags of cooked veggies, cheese, and breads that must be kept refrigerated in my climate I could eliminate a lot of wasted time and end up with a tight, long-lasting seal.
This would be a low-volume suction pump with a small countertop outlet or flexible tentacle that can be used with bags or storage containers. A foot pedal next to the fridge counter is installed.
A small punch and a tape roll of sticky 1-way valves is included so you can tailor tupperware or other sealed containers for use with the CVP.
Lab Vacuum Trap

Every lab I've ever worked in has this baked in. Separate taps for Vacuum, Natural gas and sometimes Nitrogen. It's very useful - particularly for removing liquids from small containers. We have disposable plastic pipette tips attached to tubing leading to a liquid trap/separator <link>. Only we DIY the same arrangement vs spending >$500. The downside of these is that sooner or later, the trap will overflow and nasty scmoo will be sucked into your vacuum pump. This leads to burly blue-collar types coming to your lab and giving a full & frank description of their current opinion of whoever is unfortunate enough to be standing in the wrong room. |

We also use vacuum seal bags, these come on continuous rolls and are cut-to-size, I use the same thing at home for meats/cheeses etc. Interestingly, we don't use the in-house vacuum for this, instead a standard commercial vacuum sealer, because the whole pull-a-vacuum and maintain it while the heat seal is applied, is more easily managed in a dedicated machine. These are ~$30. So just get one of those. |
