Crowd-Funded Arecibo Repairs

A backup plan if funding falls through
  [vote for,

See link, it's not gonna be cheap. University of Central Florida has applied for $10.5 million for emergency repairs from the National Science Foundation. If that falls though... GoFundMe isn't gonna cut it. Need to set up an international foundation to handle donations.

As with most similar large installations, don't the Chinese have a much bigger and better version of "Arecibo" that's properly funded and maintained?

Arecibo has capabilities lacking in China’s facility. Most important is that Arecibo can transmit as well as receive. It important to Earth's planetary defense - both asteroid tracking and early warning of alien invasions.

Personally, I think 8th is behind sabotaging Arecibo. It’s not that the Borg are coming back, not after they ditched him here on purpose. More likely others (debt collectors and other bounty hunters) are looking for him.

That's not necessarily a good thing.

How long do you think it will be before someone turns up and asks "Have you got a licence for that ?" and then tries to charge you for all the back taxes ...

A few strategically placed Roach Motels will take care of the dim witted Borg. The slogan will read (of course) Borg check in, but they don't check out. Attracted by the smell of stale cat litter (irresistible to the Borg), they make a good mulch for mushroom growing, once they've been steamed and passed though the shredder a few times.

NSF decided not to repair it (link). Maybe I should switch category to remembrances.

When scientists fail to spot the next big asteroid or alien invasion, don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Probably every worthy entity should have an open account for donation that could be webbed to the various virtual flavours of the day. Maybe even www.naic.edu.give
