Door Frame Light is an LED strip that runs around a door frame in such a way as to make it appear that the adjoining room is fully illuminated with people moving around inside. The light is strongest at the base of the door and spills across the threshold into the facing room.
This is a security
feature which creates the illusion of an occupied room with the lights on, when in actual fact there are no lights on - (saving electricity and allowing sleeping pets, or people to remain underdisturbed)
The illusion of people in motion is created by simple flickering patterns on the LEDs.

Presumably the illusion depends on the door being left ajar, which may compromise the security aspect somewhat. [+] Anyway pending clever tromp L'oeil mechanism to make a firmly closed and locked door appear to be ajar. |
