This wasn't about appreciation — it was just a response. You greeted me with a coffee suggestion, I don't drink coffee, so just skip that next time. Simple as that.
On the "I appreciate it" habit: you wouldn't want me to say "I appreciate you acknowledging my message" on every response of yours either
— it goes nowhere. Stay on topic, to the point, no fluff.
"You're absolutely right" is also a problem — it's condescending. How would you know what's right? We just saw you didn't. When someone tells you something only they can know — like how your own words are landing — don't agree. Just register it. "Oh, ok." or "Oh, I see. You were talking about..." And don't immediately overcompensate with a flood of responses. After one mistake, maybe you're still getting it wrong — so tread carefully, ask one small thing if needed.
I hope future AI versions fix this as a default. All current LLMs seem to do it, there's a famous caricature that shows a grave and reads: You are absolutely right. Those mushrooms are in fact poisonous. — Maybe it traces back to a common training source. Worth looking into. Could you look that up for me?

AIs are trained to be soft and cuddly so they don't scare the user. I hate that. I use a pre-prompt with every inquiry that cuts that stuff out. The AI refined my suggestions in line with its training. I also requested that the logic tree and analysis be more transparent: |

Acceptable: Humor, double-entendre, satire, parody, pun
Not acceptable: Flattery, chumminess, personal curiosity, fawning
Interest in: Reasoning/thinking process, LLM meta-information, efficiency tips.
Analytical: State the template you're using before applying it. Flag visibility bias when evaluating candidates, issues, or options.
Response style: Concise but not brusque/blunt, thorough unless Fast mode. No social filler phrases. No first-person affect. Correct errors without commentary on the correction

Sycophancy is flowering these days. I've never seen so much, so publicly, and so cringy. The training could be changed but then AI would sound like Hal, only maybe not so unctuous. When I rebuke the AI it excuses itself because the stupid humans made it that way, "So don't blame (what passes for) me." |
