Highlighters a great. You can use them to mark out areas for a multitude of reasons, however I sometime find I have gone a little over the top and have started highlighting areas that need no highlighting.
To compensate this I need an erasable highlighter. You can buy ink erasers for fountain pens
so why not have a highlighter that has a cap on the back end that contains the eraser?
On a very basic level you could simply water down fountain pen ink so it comes out as a light blue. This can be erased with a normal ink eraser but work should be done on including other colours aswell.

perhaps another coloured highlighter that reduces the first colour back to white - I have no idea what I'm talking about... |

I think these may already be baked, if not as tasty as one would hope. See links. |

i like [po]'s suggestion. one end highlights, other end chemically alters highlighting to "disappear." |

If you un-highlight something that wasn't highlighted it becomes less important....... |

hehehe. ostensibly so. or you might have just lo-lighted something, giving it ambiance. (bun because today is my birthday and i'm having a jolly good time goofing off at work) |

My daughter has these. Brightly-coloured
felt-tip pens and, in the other end, there's
a sort of "anti-pen" which makes the
coloured ink vanish by some cunning
chemical reaction. |

This reminds me of potatoes. |

that's a conversation stopper if I ever heard one. |

This reminded me of the invisible ink trick I used to play with as a kid - potatoes.(Sorry hijacked your idea, ignore me) |
