When you are assigned a set of these, they have your
information cross referenced on them so putting in a
particular module's number will pull up the person's info.
They easily snap off and are put into an airtight
container, in
fact the container can be made such that you just slip it
over
the module and squeeze so you don't have to touch it.
Much quicker and more sanitary than doing a swab test.
In addition to this, the mask itself has chemicals in it
that
cause it to change color to red if the person's
temperature is
above 100 degrees or so. If somebody has a fever you can
see it from hundreds of feet away.
The color changing part is baked.

Cool link, and thank you for that, but they're not better
than a mask because they don't
contain contagions from a cough. People are wearing a
mask anyway, so why not have this added feature? |

Got some time now that my SF Giants season has been
put on hold. They told me to hold my tickets, they'll be

Actually nobody would need to administer these, wearers
would just walk by a drop off station, put their contagion
module in the plastic container or envelope and drop it in
the container. Everything else could be done automatically.
This would allow one machine to process tens of thousands
of tests an hour with little or no exposure to human health
workers. |

Not sure if it would be worth it, but you could also separate
the in and out valves and test them separately to see if the
person is breathing out the contagion or if they've been
exposed to it by breathing it in. |

I was going to say that the color change, if there's a thermochromic material embedded throughout the mask, would only be around the edges where it's in contact with the skin. But I realized that the middle will be heated by exhaled breath, so it should still work (though it might need a different threshold temperature there). As a bonus, it will be cooled during inhalation, so you can more easily see how fast someone is breathing, if the thermochromic material reacts fast enough. |
