Flag etiquette specifies lowering national flags to half-staff for certain situations, usually a death or remembrance. Flagpoles that are hard to access such as those on top of buildings may suffer the flag embarrassingly at full staff for the duration of the event.
RockCo proudly introduces the fully
automatic flagpole. The flag mounts to the top of a stainless steel mast, which houses a telescoping center mast that rises electrically to simulate a static half staff condition. The internal motor is controlled by a microprocessor with a scheduling widget to ensure that no half-staff events pass unnoticed. Default activation is sunrise and sunset but may be reprogrammed for midnight.

WIFRT, I imagined an empty flag pole with some sort of discreet tag recognized by augmented-reality glasses; one passer-by would see a green flag with koranic verses, a second would see a confederate battle flag and a third, a rainbow pride flag. Each passer-by would pass by content in the feeling that they were in friendly territory. Not necessarily a *good* idea, but that was what came into my head. |
