Ghettoland

Inner city amusement park

Inner city ghettos are rife with unemployment, poverty and violence. What is the best way to turn it around? Give people jobs. And what is the most valuable resource in the ghetto, but the stereotype of the ghetto itself? Suburbanites would come from miles around, to experience life in the ghetto . You could pull up your car and "carjackers" could take your car and park it for you. Shrines to rappers like Easy-E or Tupac, could be visited .

Moreover, the tenants who live there would be benefit off of the ridiculous stereotypes.

Alternatively, this could be a movie script, where the guy who builds this, eventually falls in love with one of his employees and realizes that these are peoples homes. He then feels guilty for exploiting that stereotype and fights and wins against a local developer, who wants to build a lobbying office building.

More details on security provisions should be supplied. And you need to discuss the nifty things available in the gift shop.

       Pastry nonetheless. [+]

       It would never happen.

People live in cities because the jobs are there, because wages and life expectancies are higher. If you have an inner city that has become ghetto-ized, i.e., broken, the best thing you can do is redevelop it. Putting up a theme park would be one way to redevelop it, I guess, but it seems awfully racist and denigrating.

[-] I think it's a horrible idea. Where the money is being made on ghetto stereotypes is already in the fashion, music, and movie markets. They exploit the stereotype, yet give none back to the originators.

You need to put a few basketball hoops on the side of the road leading to the park. This way the visiters can get the full effect, of having to drive around a group of people playing in the street.

I don't hate anyone in the ghetto or the ghetto itself, I live in one myself.

Also, you need random shopping carts from local stores littering the street, and redlining VTEC's roaring down the street.

Not at all. I really don't think anyone would want the place they live in to become a *theme park*. I do know that people from the ghetto who make it out and get some money do go back there and try to help, but in a different way than this. Maybe I just should have said I did not think that this idea was a good way to help support the people in the ghetto.

pssst, you wanna buy some fake crack?
another point being--If you are afraid to go into the real ghetto, you probably don't belong there.

Fuzzy Logic: a) I think the phrase you are looking for is "quote-unquote;" b) since you are typing your message, not saying it out loud, then why not simply put actual quote marks around redneck?

Approximately invented by someone French - they call it 'nostalgie de la boue', I think.

Just use the actual ghetto and have a large bulletproof glass dome running through the hood, like you get in an aquarium.
marklar, Aug 08 2007

[marklar] is on to something with the bulletproof glass bit. if you have suburbanites who are so all-fired excited about passing unmolested through the "rough" part of town, then let them 'pope' it up in a bullet-proof safari suv or something equally demeaning to both sectors of society. that way they can point and gawk and take pictures without having to fear for their lives because they are insulting the hell out of other people.

my money says opportunists from the ghetto proper would buy season passes and run rampant.

This was baked in the '60's when *normal* people toured through the Haight-Ashbury district of San Francisco in large, air-conditioned buses, pointing and staring at the hippies.

Which they still do in the "Rainbow Region", northern coastal New Soutb Wales state, Australia. Buses daily from Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

I was listening to a broadcast the other day about how poorly places like Disneyworld pay and how the workers can't afford to live in decent housing that's comparatively close to work. The park is the largest tax base for the county, and therefore gets their way, but does little to lift it out of its malaise.
